Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy, neurodivergent, neurodiverse, adhd women, autism, adhd, trauma

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy is a nonjudgmental and compassionate approach that recognizes and celebrates the diverse ways our minds work. As someone who is neurodiverse, finding a therapist who truly understands and values this aspect of your identity is crucial. Let’s explore why:

What Is Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy?

  • Neurodiversity refers to the beautiful variation in how our brains function. It encompasses individuals with ADHD, autism, dyslexia, trauma, and other unique cognitive processes.
  • Neurodiversity-affirming therapy recognizes that these differences are not deficits but valuable expressions of human diversity.

Celebrating Differences:

  • In neurodiversity-affirming therapy, differences are celebrated, not pathologized.
  • I will honor your unique experiences, strengths, and challenges while providing you with tools to work with some of the struggles that often come with living in a society that lacks awareness of what it means to be neurodiverse.

Understanding the Neurodivergent Experience:

  • While everyone has their own unique experiences, I will to my best in exercising curiosity and working to understand any sensory sensitivities, executive functioning differences, and the impact of neurodivergence on your daily life.
  • I won’t try to make you fit a neurotypical mold but will appreciate you as your authentic self.

Validation and Belonging:

  • I will always aim to create space where you can be fully seen and accepted.
  • Feeling understood and validated fosters a sense of belonging.

Reshaping the Narrative:

  • Historically, research and media focused on a narrow demographic (often caucaisan males) within the neurodivergent community.
  • Today, we recognize that neurodiversity spans across all backgrounds and experiences.
  • You’re part of a rich tapestry of voices reshaping this narrative.

Your Superpower:

  • It may not feel like it right now, but with a trove of strategies and resources to help you regulate your nervous system, set healthy boundaries, and learn how to unmask in a way that feels supportive for you, Neurodivergence can become rooted in empowerment.
  • Your perspective enriches society, and finding a therapist who celebrates this is essential.

Remember, you deserve a therapist who not only understands but also values your neurodiversity. My lived experience and affirming approach can empower you to accept and embrace your neurotype(s) and thrive.
